The Korean Wave continues to make waves in the entertainment industry as a star-studded cast led by Ma Dong-seok and Park Hyung-sik headlines the upcoming Disney+ K-drama “Twelve”. Inspired by the creatures of the zodiac, “Twelve” follows the story of a group of ancient zodiac guardians who must come together to fight evil spirits threatening modern-day Seoul and the Korean peninsula.
The show gets its name from the twelve guardians who had previously sacrificed themselves to seal away these evil forces, only to reunite under Tae-san’s leadership when darkness threatens to consume their world once again. Dong-seok, also known as Don Lee, takes on the role of Tae-san, the leader of the Twelve and the guardian for the tiger. With his notable performances in movies like “Train to Busan” and “Eternals”, Lee brings his star power to the small screen in his first series since 2016.
Joining Lee in the cast is Seo In-guk, who plays Won-seung, the guardian for the monkey and a character who aspires to lead the group after Tae-san. In-guk, known for his work in “Reply 1997”, reunites with Sung Dong-il, who portrays Ma-rok, the guardians’ manager. Sung Dong-il, a familiar face in Korean dramas and films, adds his talent to the ensemble cast of “Twelve”.
Park Hyung-sik takes on the role of the antagonistic evil spirit O-gwi, showcasing his versatility as an actor with previous roles in various dramas and movies. Lee Joo-bin, known for her work in “Queen of Tears” and “Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area”, plays Mir, the guardian for the dragon. Together with Ko Kyu-pil, who portrays Don-yi, the guardian for the snake, the cast is rounded out by talented actors like Mina, Sung Yoo-bin, Ahn Ji-hye, and Regina Lei.
Directed by Kang Dae-kyu and Han Yun-seon, “Twelve” promises to deliver an exciting and action-packed series with a script by Lee and Kim Bong-han. Set for a premiere on August 23, the show is highly anticipated by fans of Korean dramas and the cast members alike.
As the Korean Wave continues to captivate audiences around the world, “Twelve” stands out as a must-watch series that combines elements of fantasy, action, and drama. With a talented cast led by Ma Dong-seok, Park Hyung-sik, and Seo In-guk, the show is set to make a splash in the ever-growing landscape of Korean entertainment.
In a time where international collaborations and cross-cultural exchanges are becoming more common, “Twelve” represents a unique blend of Korean storytelling and global appeal. With its premiere just around the corner, fans can look forward to an epic tale of heroes, villains, and the battle between light and darkness in the world of the zodiac.
