RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil – Lady Gaga fans, also known as “Little Monsters,” flocked to Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro for a free mega-concert by the American superstar. The iconic beach was already bustling with crowds early in the day as fans eagerly awaited the performance.
Vendors were seen roaming around the area, offering a variety of items such as paper fans and sarongs adorned with Lady Gaga’s image to the excited attendees. The fans patiently waited in long lines to go through metal detectors before gaining entrance to the beach.
To ensure the safety of the massive crowd, local authorities deployed a significant security force consisting of 5,000 officers, drones, and surveillance and facial recognition cameras. The turnout for the concert was expected to reach around 1.6 million people, potentially injecting $100 million into the local economy, a substantial increase from the previous year’s free Madonna concert.
The event on Saturday was part of Lady Gaga’s promotional tour for her eighth album, “Mayhem,” which featured popular songs like “Abracadabra” and “Die With a Smile,” the latter being a collaboration with Bruno Mars that earned her a 14th Grammy award.
Fans like 22-year-old Alisha Duarte arrived early in the morning to secure a good spot for the concert. Duarte expressed her excitement for the event, stating, “So far, it’s going well. It’ll get more complicated tonight when it’s going to get super crowded, but we’ll survive – Lady Gaga is worth it!”
The LGBT community was well-represented at the concert, with many attendees carrying rainbow-colored fans as a symbol of pride and support. Alan Jones, a hairstylist from Santa Catarina, displayed a skull tattoo on his arm inspired by Lady Gaga’s song “Born This Way,” which he credited for helping him accept himself.
Luan Messias, who traveled from Itanhaem in Sao Paulo state, shared his anticipation for Lady Gaga’s performance of “Abracadabra,” a song he enjoyed dancing to. The artist had not toured in Brazil since 2012, missing out on headlining the Rock in Rio festival in 2017 due to health issues.
The free concert by Lady Gaga at Copacabana Beach drew in a massive crowd of devoted fans, eager to witness the superstar’s electrifying performance. The event not only showcased Lady Gaga’s musical talent but also highlighted the unity and excitement of her diverse fan base gathered in one place to celebrate her music and message of acceptance and empowerment.
